What's in a Word?

What's in a Word?

It sounds simple enough to “BELIEVE”, but truthfully, this word scares the heck out of me!  The word BELIEVE has never been ordinary to me; it’s always carried a mean punch as a call to action: the action of living, not simply verbalizing a belief.  So when the word BELIEVE came to me as being my one word for 2014 it became a pretty big deal.  A quiver ran down my spine as if God Himself were whispering into my ear so I could feel His breath on my neck asking, “do you believe?”  This isn’t simply a question, it is challenge, a prodding, a call to action.

365 days a year, I say that I believe in Jesus & His incredible ability to use me in ways I can’t imagine, but do I really LIVE like I BELIEVE it? The raw, unglamorous answer is a flat no, I don’t.

As I’ve said in previous posts, I am a type-A personality, driven by setting & achieving goals, staying focused, organized & planning my life! I do all this while believing in my heart that, at any time, God can use me any way He chooses. However, what I’m missing is that my belief hasn’t quite jumped off the page & into my favorite pair of shoes yet!  I haven’t been fully walking the belief I have in my Maker.

Here is what the word BELIEVE means to me for 2014:

For me the hardest part of God’s call to action is wrapped up in the word TRUST. In order to BELIEVE in something, or someone, we must first know that we can trust them. For example, before we buy a pair of shoes we always check the quality, then choose a brand we TRUST to provide comfort & reliability.  Believing is no different. If I say that I believe in God, yet can’t let go enough to TRUST Him with all the details of my life, reality is, I don’t truly BELIEVE Him when He says, “Trust me” Proverbs 3:5-6   The key part of this passage is “in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” While part of Believing means Trusting, the biggest part of Trusting means Submitting.  As I submit my dreams, my goals & my entire life to God, He will make my path straight. As a result of submitting, I can find Beauty in Chaos, I won’t lose my Sparkle, and I can achieve my goals & resolutions.  Basically, in submitting to God, I get to walk Philippians 4:13

I believe that in 2014 God’s really going to rock my world! He’s going to stretch me, test me, try me, mold & make me into the BELIEVING woman He’s called me to be.

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8

I’ve been called to action, set apart & chosen for such a time as this.

Just as with Esther, the time for me has come to arise, & walk.

No longer can I hold back in fear.

No longer can I point to someone else as the one to answer the call…

It has to be me: I want it to be me.

It’s time to let my life reflect one of true Belief in Jesus, as He takes my hand & leads me into the unknown.  I don’t know about you, but as scared as I am, I find great comfort in God’s promise to be here every step of the way:

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2

How about you? Do you truly believe?

He is going to take your faith and explode it into something you never thought it could be. As you live out the days of this year of believing you will be amazed!

{tears} thank you for speaking life & encouragement to my soul… I stand in awe of all He is doing thus far, because I know in my heart, this is only the beginning! Thank you for walking with me on my journey! ♥

Thank you for the reflection and challenge. Yes, this has to do with my oneword also: Grace. Believing that the no from God is grace to me. Walking it out. Counting all the times he says yes, too! I often take comfort in the man’s words to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” I think that means I do believe but not fully and what you’re saying is make it full! Me too.

So very true… walking it is the hardest part! You can do it {we can do it!} Thank you for walking with me on my journey!! ♥

Love this….I find the word believe can be intimidating, too. But God has equipped us even in this. The verse you shared from Is. 43 has come to me three times today….God speaking! Great share. Thanks!…..

” So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ. Romans10:17 I grow more convinced all the time that an ongoing relationship with God through his word is essential to the Christians victory.
We can’t presently and actively believe God in our day-to-day challenges if we are not presently and actively in his word.
For example, God’s direction for my life will escape me without the word being ” a lamp for my feet and a light on my path ” (Ps. 119:105 ).
Liberty in Christ only becomes a reality in life through knowing and applying the truth of God’s word, not just taking our Bibles to church or keeping them on our night stands.
