Finding Peace This Thanksgiving, Even With a Heavy Heart
Hello Friend,
With Thanksgiving just a few days away, I know that for many, this season can feel different—especially when we are missing someone/people we love. It can be difficult to embrace the joy of the holidays when grief weighs heavy on our hearts. If you're walking through this season with sorrow, I want to remind you that it’s okay to feel the loss deeply, and it’s okay to create space for your grief even amid the celebrations.
God understands our pain. He knows the ache of our hearts, and He walks with us through it. Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4, NIV). It’s not a sign of weakness to grieve; in fact, it’s part of the healing journey.
Grief and gratitude can coexist.
You can honor the memory of your loved one while still finding moments of peace and joy.
This Thanksgiving, don’t feel pressured to "move on" or "get over it." Instead, give yourself permission to feel your emotions, to remember, and to rest in God's presence. It's okay to create new memories without your loved one, and it's okay if those memories feel bittersweet. God’s grace is with you in every single moment.
Let’s also remember that the same God who comforts us in our sorrow has promised to renew our strength. As we lean on Him, He gives us the courage to take one day at a time, to embrace both the heartache and the hope of new beginnings.
Would you join me in a prayer for this season?
Father God, we come to You with heavy hearts this Thanksgiving,
remembering those we love who are no longer with us.
We ask for Your comfort to fill the empty spaces
and for Your peace to quiet our restless minds.
Help us to honor the memories we hold dear
while also embracing the life You continue to give us.
Teach us to trust in Your plan and to find moments of gratitude
even in the midst of sorrow.
May Your love be our strength
and may Your presence be our comfort.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
♥
As you move through this season, may you feel God’s hand holding you close, and may you find peace in His promises. If you need someone to talk to or pray with, don’t hesitate to reach out. I've walked this myself and understand full well how it feels; you are not alone!
With love and prayers,
