6-Week Series — Friendships in Your 40s: Real, Raw, and Redeemed (A Powerful Invitation)

A New Podcast Series: Friendships in Your 40s — Real, Raw, and Redeemed

Hello Friend!

Friendships in your 40s can feel different, surprising, and sometimes a little lonely. Have you felt your friendships shifting lately? Maybe the women you once spent every moment with feel distant now. Maybe you're finding it harder to build new connections that go beyond small talk and surface-level living.

Friend, you’re not alone.

In this season, navigating friendships in your 40s can feel like new territory — inviting us to lean on God for courage, discernment, and open-hearted connection.

Today marks the launch of a brand new 6-week podcast series: "Friendships in Your 40s: Real, Raw, and Redeemed." This series is for every woman who’s wrestled with loneliness, longed for deeper connection, or wondered why friendships feel different in this season of life.

In our first episode, we unpack what it means to navigate the changing landscape of friendship as we grow. We talk about the surprises, the grief of letting go, and the beautiful invitation God offers us to cultivate friendships that sharpen and support us—friendships built on spiritual depth rather than convenience.

We were so inspired by Pastor Jasmin Weller's message on the five hindrances to friendship:
1️⃣ Differing seasons of life
2️⃣ Building new history
3️⃣ Insecurity
4️⃣ Comparison
5️⃣ The busyness of life

We explore these challenges honestly and share how we’ve seen God work through them in our own lives.

There’s a powerful example in Scripture of Paul and Barnabas (Acts 9, Acts 11–15)—two friends whose relationship shifted as they navigated ministry, conflict, and calling. This reminds us that even in the Bible, friendships were living, breathing, and ever-changing.

Jesus says in John 15:13-15 (ESV):

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you… I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you."

What a gift—that He calls us friends.

💛 As you read today, I invite you to listen to this episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. Bring your journal, your open heart, and maybe a warm cup of tea—and let the Holy Spirit speak to you about the friendships He wants you to steward in this season.

These prompts will help you prayerfully reflect on friendships in your 40s and how God is calling you to show up.
1️⃣ How have my friendships changed since my 20s and 30s? What surprised me most about this current season of connection?
→ Reflect on shifting dynamics, expectations, and needs in your friendships.

2️⃣ Which of the five hindrances—differing seasons, lack of history, insecurity, comparison, or busyness—has impacted my friendships the most, and why?
→ Bring that area before the Lord and ask for healing, growth, or wisdom.

3️⃣ What kind of friend do I desire to be in this season? Am I making space to be poured into, pour out, and walk alongside others?
→ Consider the model of Paul & Barnabas, and the three types of relationships: mentors and mothers, disciples and daughters, and true friends.

Building deeper friendships in your 40s often means stepping out of your comfort zone. It might look like initiating that coffee date, reaching out to an old friend, or bravely starting new conversations in places you feel unseen. Remember, God is not asking you to fill every seat at your table — He's inviting you to create space for the right people, the ones who will point you back to Him and walk alongside you in love and truth. Pray for courage, and trust that He will bring the right connections in His perfect timing.

I also highly recommend Jennie Allen’s book Find Your People: Building Deep Community in a Lonely World if you're hungry for more guidance.  If you’re longing to go deeper in your walk with Jesus — not just in your friendships, but in every area of your life — I invite you to read my How to Live a Surrendered Life: 7 Practical, Biblical Ways to Trust God Daily. It’s a gentle, grace-filled guide to help you trust Him more fully and live from a place of freedom.

🤍 Friend, no matter where you find yourself in your friendships in your 40s, remember: you are seen, known, and deeply loved by the One who never leaves your side.
