7 Practical Ways to Live Fully Surrendered handout

How to Live a Surrendered Life: 7 Practical, Biblical Ways to Trust God Daily

Have you ever heard someone say, "Just surrender it to the Lord," and felt confused or even frustrated? You're not alone. I've had several conversations lately with a few different girlfriends specifically about them wanting practical, life-applicable, tangible, black & white ways to surrender to God. Each one of my friends stated feeling frustrated by how easily the term "surrender it to the Lord" is thrown around, but left them not fully understanding what that actually equates to beyond the spiritual significance.

My hope in this post is to provide you with just that: 7 practical ways to live fully surrendered to the Lord. These aren't lofty ideas; they are everyday practices rooted in Scripture and designed to help you walk more closely with Jesus.

  1. Yield Your Plans Daily:
    Scripture: Proverbs 16:3, Proverbs 19:21
When you invite God into your daily plans, you position yourself to be led rather than driven. Surrender begins with offering Him your schedule, your to-do list, and your ambitions.
  2. Let Go of Control:
Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6 Control feels safe, but it’s often a false sense of security. Trusting God means acknowledging that His understanding far surpasses ours—and that His way is always better.
  3. Stay Rooted in the Word:
Scripture: Psalm 119:105, John 15:7God’s Word is both anchor and compass. It lights our path and keeps us grounded when emotions want to lead.
  4. Worship Through the Waiting:
Scripture: Romans 12:1, Isaiah 40:31 Surrender often involves seasons of waiting. Instead of growing anxious, choose to worship. Waiting becomes sacred when it’s filled with praise.
  5. Surrender the Hard and Hidden:
Scripture: Psalm 139:23–24 Sometimes we surrender what’s visible but hold onto the hidden places—wounds, fears, pride. God sees it all, and He invites us to let Him into the deepest parts of our hearts.
  6. Speak Surrender Aloud:
Scripture: Proverbs 18:21, Psalm 107:2 There’s power in our words. Speaking truth and surrender aloud helps realign our spirit with God’s truth.
  7. Obey Promptly:
Scripture: John 14:15, James 1:22 Obedience is the fruit of surrender. When the Holy Spirit nudges you—"call her," "give that," "wait here"—respond quickly. Prompt obedience cultivates a surrendered heart.

Living surrendered doesn’t mean
living perfectly

it means living yielded, open, and trusting.
It means showing up each day
with a heart that says,
"Not my will, but Yours be done."

I pray that one or more of these 7 practices meets you right where you are and becomes part of your rhythm of surrender.
